For cheap holidays, you also have to be smart looking for cheap tickets. Especially for roundtrip tickets. This time we will calculate the cost of a cheap vacation from Jakarta to Yogyakarta. To get cheap tickets you can search various travel agent applications. Remember! Because this is a cheap holiday, you also have to find economy train tickets at the lowest prices.
So for this article I suggest you visit Yogyakarta in the middle of your Indonesia / Asia trip, so it’ll be cheaper because of the local transport price!
The round ticket price for Jakarta to Yogyakarta is around IDR 150,000 / person.
Train Ticket
Hotel
Remember! this time we will have a cheap holiday in Yogyakarta. So whatever is chosen must be the cheapest. For accommodation you can really choose various hotels in the Sosrowijayan alley. There you will get a variety of very cheap hotel choices. Indeed, the hotels in the Sosrowijayan alley are not as fancy as 5-star hotels. But you should know, for cheap holidays, lodging facilities are not important, the most important thing is the convenience of the inn.
Here you will find the hotel you need. For cheap holidays you only need 2 nights. So you just have to book a room for 2 nights.
My recommendation : Hotel 1001 Malam
The price range of this hotel is € 18 per night, it’s a great option and it’s clean, which is important!
Activities
In this cheap holiday to Yogyakarta, we recommend that you choose a number of tourist attractions where the ticket price is relatively cheap. But that’s not gonna be a problem because most of the tourist attraction are free or really cheap so you’re basically can go ANYWHERE if you have Euro as your income!
Well, here are some lists of tourist attractions that I personally like. You can choose from some of these attractions. Of course you have to make sure that the tourist attractions are close to where you are staying.
Bukit Bintang
Gumuk Pasir
Pintoe Langit Dahromo
Kaliadem
Goa Gajah
Tamansari Water Castle

Food
As I said in previous article that food in Indonesia are divine! and each regions have their own specialty! and in this post I’m trying my best to curate the foods that you HAVE TO TRY when you’re in Yogyakarta!
You know me, so you know the drill, I’ll put the pictures of the food and the names and I’ll also put a couple of my personal favourite in the end! Oh and also did you know that you can click on the picture if you want to take a closer look? go ahead and do that!

Sorry! I got carried away lol! but here’s all the stuff that you can and WILL eat if you go to Yogyakarta or any Indonesian cities for that matter. Just show the pictures to ANYONE and they will help you find it! Good luck and have a great breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack!!!!
Packing Tips
Now for the packing tips, I advise you to dress comfortably. Most of the times weather in Indonesia is warm to hot because it’s a tropical country! so it would be better to wear casual stuff, and for shoes, just wear whatever feels comfortable for your feet. Don’t forget SUN SCREEN! so you’ll never have a problem with being sunburnt!
The best way to get to Tobermory is to take a bus from Toronto, which takes about 3.5 hours. However this road trip is spectacular. Through cottage country you will be able to see beautiful landscapes and scenic areas. Once in Tobermory, walking to and from the beach is very easy. All living areas are about 10-15 minute walk to the beach, as is the downtown area of Tobermory.
Road-trip from Toronto to Tobermory
Accommodations
In the past, a few friends and I have rented a cabin in Tobermory for a few days. This was the best option for us, as we were able to save money by grocery shopping and cooking for ourselves. We booked the cabin far enough in advance so it was a good price, which we split 5 ways. Truly, the cabin was one of the best parts of this trip, and I have recommended it many times.
Example of a Cabin in Tobermory
Activities
The best activity to see and do in Tobermory is to visit the Fathom Five National Marine Park. This little cove is a Canadian treasure, with beaches looking like the Caribbean. This is the main attraction in Tobermory, where people bring food, drinks, music and games to soak in the sun. The water is also extremely safe, but be warned – it’s not all that warm.
Tobermory Beach on a busy day
Food Tips
The most commonly found food around here is pub style. Burgers, sandwiches, salads, and finger foods are majority of the restaurant’s dishes. A typical dinner will probably cost around $20-25CAD. However, my personal experience here was that my friends and I bought food for a few days at a grocery store, cooked for ourselves, and packed lunches for our days out. I recommend this tip for anyone who wants to save money while travelling here.
Packing
For this trip, I recommend packing normal beach/ cottage clothes. Some hats and sunglasses, flip flops, and beach towels. I also reccomend bringing cooler bags for the beaches, where you can pack lunches and keep them cool in the hot summer sun. I also reccomend bringing games for the beach, like cards, soccer balls, and board games.
The Algarve is a region is located in the south of Portugal, and it is made up of a few different neighbouring cities. As each city is quite close to eachother, public transportation is an easy and affordable method of transportation. However, since this area isnt too vast, you are definitely able to walk from place to place.
Area Highlighted is the Algarve region
Accomodation
The Algarve is one of Portugal’s most touristic areas. This region is definitely a hotspot for hotel companies and air bnbs. Every time I’ve been to the Algarve i’ve stayed in an air bnb, and it was truly the greatest decision for me. We had a beautiful house with a great location, near a supermarket, the downtown area, and several beaches. Because of my experience like this, I absolutely recommend staying in an air bnb.
Activities
The absolute number one thing to do in this region is to visit some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Pria de Rocha and Ponta Da Piedade are the two most well known beaches in the Algarve, and the best activity to do here. With Ponta Da Piedade, you can take a boat tour for about 10 euros per person and you can go on an absolutely beautiful scenic tour through the caves.

Food Tips
Most of the food in this area is very similar. You will have your typical pub style restaurant, a few higher class Mediterranean style food restaurants, and authentic Portuguese cuisine. All very close in location, each different type of dining was superb for me. For more affordable eating, the pub style restaurants are the place to go.

Packing
To properly pack for this trip, having light clothing is best. Tee shirts and shorts, summer dresses are the best clothing to have, and if possible, bring lighter coloured clothes as the sun is extremely hot. Sunglasses, hats and sunscreen are also essentials.
Bali, the island of the Gods is indeed one of the favourites of (both domestic and foreign) tourists. Bali offers a comfort as well as tranquility in your heart when you visit. However, there are still many people who consider holidays to Bali need a lot of money, especially if you want to have fun.
In fact, enough with IDR 1,500,000
you can be satisfied in Bali for one week! The only expensive things you need
to worry about is the flight! Which can cost up to 700 euro, but in low season
you can find one that cost 300 – 500 euro, so make sure that the timing is
right!
Meanwhile, public
transportation from Ngurah Rai Airport to several back areas can use taxis with
the following fare information (Prices may change at any time):
These are examples of the price of the taxi with the destination but there are always ways that you can finesse into getting cheaper deals! One of them are bringing LOCAL!!!! (u can hit me up anytime lol). Oh yeah, and also these are not all the price range, but if you want to check all of the price and destination go to Bali tourism website and there you’ll find the informations you need!
Taxi in Bali
Hotel
Hotels don’t need to be expensive, as long as it’s clean enough. Actually, your main function is to book a hotel because you need a bed when the night comes, right? If you don’t use star-rated hotel facilities, you better book a hotel that is normal, but still clean. Anyway … who says you can’t find luxury lodging with a private pool under IDR 1,000,000? You can!
My recommendation : Best Western Kuta Villa
The hotel provides free transportation from the hotel to Discovery Mall. The design of the hotel is modern mixed with ethnic Balinese. The price per room starts from IDR 480,000.
Activities
Touring around Bali will be
very pleasant. Can enjoy beautiful Balinese landscapes in a relaxed manner,
enjoying them on a motorcycle. I’ve done this in Bali several times, and
haven’t been bored until now. For detailed itinerary touring around Bali for
two days, roughly like this.
Touring Around Bali Day 1
Departing from Kuta early in the morning, around 04.00 – 04.30
The first destination to be visited is Sanur Beach, estimates until 05.00. Enjoy the sunrise on Sanur beach
Around 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. can be spent on breakfast first. around the closest Sanur Beach is KFC fast food.
Around 11.00, enter the Candidasa area
At 12.00, stop at Virgin Beach or also known as White Sand Beach. Spend about 2 hours on this beach, and continue the journey at 14.00
Continuing the journey from Virgin Beach, around 15.00 will pass the Amlapura area, and Amed which is part of East Bali. The scenery along this trip is second to none. There is one area where you can clearly see the amazing scenery of Mount Agung.
It is estimated that at 17.00, it will reach the northern part of Bali, while enjoying this beautiful sunset in northern Bali.
At 7:00 p.m. will enter Singaraja area, the first day will end at Singaraja. Many lodgings are found on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Singaraja.
Touring Around Bali Day 2
Try to leave the hotel where you stay in the morning, around 07.00 – 08.00 WITA, or even earlier if you want to see dolphins on Lovina Beach.
If you do not want to watch wild dolphins on Lovina Beach, by leaving at 08.00 WITA, it is estimated to arrive at Lovina Beach at around 8:30 a.m.
Around 10:30 WITA, it will reach seririt, the surrounding scenery is in the form of hills, and there are several parts that are the edge of the beach.
The next hour after leaving Seririt area, or around 11:30 WITA, will enter the area of West Bali National Park, which is mostly in the form of forests, besides that in the West Bali National Park there is also Labuhan Lalang which is the crossing point to Menjangan Island.
After noon around 13:00 WITA, you will enter the country, one of the regencies in the province of Bali, which also has many beautiful scenery along its path, such as a verdant view of rice fields with a sea background. Where can you find other than in Bali?
Around 18:00 WITA, it will reach the end of traveling around Bali, the final destination which is also the starting point, Kuta, Bali.
Along the northern route, it is difficult to find food stalls, except when you have entered the Singaraja area, bringing food in the form of snacks for your own drink will be better.
So those are my recommendation for 2 days of your trip, and the rest of them you can explore and google on your own! The possibility is endless you guys! This is Indonesia we’re talking about, there are no rules in terms of how to explore the crevices of this island!
Food
Food in Indonesia are AMAZING (bias opinion btw lmao) and each regions cuisine have their own magic! and in this post I’m trying my best to curate the foods that you HAVE TO TRY when you’re in Bali!
You know me, so you know the drill, I’ll put the pictures of the food and the names and I’ll also put a couple of my personal favourite in the end! Oh and also did you know that you can click on the picture if you want to take a closer look? go ahead and do that!
Babi Guling Bali (Suckling Pig)
Bebek Goreng/ Bebek Betutu (Fried/Smoked Duck)
Nasi Campur (Mixed Rice)
Sambal Matah (Chilli sauce)
Sate Lilit Ikan (Fish Satay)
And now time for some of my faves!

Unique Place
In this article I’ll give y’all a bonus of cool place to visit in Bali that I personally like. All of these place is only good for instagram photos lol, so if you’re not looking for that you can skip this section!
Motel Mexicola Trendy and unique dining place with a colourful concept serving Mexican specialties and alcohol.
Hideout Beehive Hideout Beehive is a unique eco stay for adventurous travelers, hidden in the mountains of the Mount Agung area. It’s the first of the three Hideout homes to permanently sleep four guests. With an upstairs rotating bed in the Beehive, as well as a double house overlooking the river, it’s perfect for a couple of couples or a group of friends getaway.
Mad Pops The only place to eat ice cream in Seminyak! This popular spot has recently launched a second branch in Canggu so look out for more neon lighting and Instagram fame.
Kim Soo KIM SOO is a lifestyle & homeware store based in Seminyak. With monochromatic interiors and exteriors, Kim Soo is the chicest shop in Bali.
Packing Tips
Now for the packing tips, I advise you to dress comfortably. Most of the times weather in Bali is warm to hot so it would be better to wear casual stuff and maybe even your swim suit (trust me you will see people out and about in their swim suit or shirtless). And for shoes, just wear whatever feels comfortable for your feet, I mostly just pack my Birkenstock and call it a day. Don’t forget SUN SCREEN! so you’ll never have a problem with being sunburnt!
In my opinion the public transport of Berlin is one of the most completes ones that I have seen. However, as I’ve told you before, I love to get to know a city walking as much as I can. Also, as a big city Berlin counts with platforms such as Uber and Cabify for those moments when you are in a hurry or whenever walking or public transportation is not an option.
As a capital you can arrive in Berlin by bus, train, car or airplane, being every option ok.
Tram Line 3
Accomodation
I recommend Meininger Hotel. They have three options in Berlin, in Alexanderplatz, Berlin Mitte and Central Station. All those options are budget friendly and you can decide which one fit better your needs.
Activities
There are a lot of activities for every kind of tastes to do in Berlin. Furthermore Berlin, as the german capital, is city charged with history and that’s why it has a lot of memorial and important places or monuments. As well, Berlin is a multicultural city that has adopted a lot of cultures aside from it one one. As a result Berlin is one of the cities, which its mother language is not a requirement to live there (if you speak english at least).
You can find a lot of festivals, parties and crazy things to do in Berlin. However, if it is your first time visiting Berlin I would highly recommend to stick to its historical side and calmly try some german beers. What I’m about to recommend you are, for me, the unmissable places or things to do / see in Berlin.
To start you can go to Alexanderplatz, which is one of the largest squares in the world, there you’ll find two important monuments to see. First the world watch, which shows the time in 148 all day long. Second the Fernsehturm, TV Tower in English, the 368 mtr tower that you can appreciate mostly from every point of the city. From here you can go walking to some imporant places and ending in the Holocaust Memorial. Passing first the museum island, where you can find six internationally significant museums. Next to it you’ll find Berlin’s cathedral which you can enter for 7 EUR. Then you can pass by the Babelplatz, where you can find a memorial to the Nazi book burning. Continue to the one of the iconics monuments of Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate. Next to it you’ll also find the holocaust memorial. From there you are close to the Tiergarten, which is the principal garden of the city and contains the city zoo.
AlexanderplatzHolocaust MemorialBrandeburgo Gate
World Clock

I would leave for another day the visit to East side Gallery, where you can see part of the famous Berlin Wall with a lot of artistic graffities. Also to visit Checkpoint Charlie, which was where the people had to check their passports to go from the american sector to the soviet sector, or vice versa.
I went to the jewish museum in Berlin. I have to say that emotionally it is hard to watch but historically I love that topic, so it was a very interesting experience.
Food tips
Due to the large turkish presence in Berlin, their influence on the food is remarkable. Give it a try to a very well known fast food in europe, that was brought by the turkish, and go to Mufasa’s Kebab. It is known because berliners say it is the best kebab in town. Also try the little arabic food stores along the city. They are really cheap and delicious.
Personally I love an italian restaurant that’s called Vapiano. It is budget friendly and you can see how they cook your pasta or pizza at the bar.
If you’re a hamburger lover, go to Burgermaister. It is really good and friendly with the budget.

Transport
Lisbon is not the type of city that has everything in the same you would want to see in the sae area. Also, it has a lot of hills, which makes walking harder but not impossible. I used a mix of public transportation, uber/cabify, walking and even rent a scooter of Lime.
To go from Lisbon to Sintra, we rented a car which was cheap and perfect for what we needed.
Accomodation
The accomodation in Lisbon is very budget friendly. There are a lot of hostels and most of them include breakfast. We stayed in a Hostel private room for three near the Alfama neighborhood. It was B. Mar Hostels & Suits.
Activities
Enjoy the views in the different viewing points that this city has to offer. I can recommend:
Santa Luzia
Gracia
Santa Catalina
Senhora do Monte
Das Portas da Sol
Visite the cathedral of Lisbon, called La sé. Go to Praça do Comércio, one of the most importants squares in Lisbon because it was where the royal palace was located for many years. There you can see the arch of triumph. After that you can go to the neighborhood Belem and enjoy the sunset at the Belem Tower.
In Sintra we went directly to the Pena Palace, which is more than just a palace because there’s an huge park before getting to the actual palace. The views are incredible and diverse.
The palaceThe park
Food tips
Since we had breakfast included in our hostel, we were only looking for lunch and dinner. In my personal experience I couldn’t visit as many restaurants as I wanted because we arrived on the 25th of december and almost everything was closed. So we ate kebab once and went to two restaurants. One in the city center near the Plaça do Comércio and the other right next to our hostel. The first one was big but the food was really basic and expensive. The second one, A Tasca do Poeta, was tiny, but the service and the food were awesome and had good prices. In both we tried typical food that is pretty much based on seafood. When we went to Sintra we brought snacks and didn’t eat there.
Packing
Depends a lot on the season but I highly recommend comfy sneakers due to the hills of the city and the castle in Sintra.
Lyon is the third- largest city and second-largest urban area of France, but it’s incredible because you can do it all by the public transport, walking because the city is beautiful or you can rent skateboards by the app LIME and take a road around the rivers Rhône and Saône , I traveled to Lyon by bus from Clermont-Ferrand, I arrive to the Gare de Perrache, it was so cheap, so you can book your trip with some months of anteriority and I am sure that you will not regret visiting this city.
Accomodation
I had the opportunity to stay in the flat of a friend, but you can search in booking or according to the number of persons that are going to do the trip in AIRBNB a really good option for big groups. The best places to stay in Lyon the old town and the Presqu’île, both situated in the most central part of the city.
Activities
I have been in Lyon two times, but the best date was on December ( 5,6,7 and 8) because I went to the festival of lights , that is traditional of Lyon because of the 8 of December when the residences of Lyon placed candles in coloured glasses on their window sills to celebrate the installation of a statue of the Virgin Mary on the Fourvière Hill. This festival is amazing and it’s crowded of persons, all the French people go to Lyon on those dates of December, you would see all the most important cathedrals, courthouse, etc, illuminated and with some incredible stories told through lights.
Also, you can visit La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, it is on the top of theFourvière hill, the church is beautiful, but you have to go also because you would have a viewpoint of 180 degrees panorama of Lyon. You have two options you can visit this place walking or go by transport public.
The ancients ruins of Fourvière they are near the Basilique, so you can go walking and visit them, there are from 2000 years ago, and is a perfect spot to take some pictures. You should go back to the city walking by your way, because there are wonderful streets and the view it’s incredible.
Finally, the Parc de la Tête d’Or, is a huge park you can go there and do a picnic, walk around the forest and feel the freedom there. Inside you will find some animals and a little zoo.
Food tips
I was traveling in a low budget, but we went to a restaurant, I don’t remember the name of it but we ate a traditional dish of lyon that was a bread and you choose what you want to put on top ( potatoes, meat, cheese, etc). Was delicious and the prices where cheap.
Packing
The most important advice to travel in Europe is to have a good and comfortable sport shoes and with them you will have an excellent experience here.
If you want to go to Cartagena you have to go by airplane, or you can arrive to Barranquilla or Santa Marta and go by car, for me the best option is by airplane. You have to book your tickets early, because they are gonna be expensive if you buy them near to the dates of the trip.
Accomodation
In cartagena you have two options: You can book an hotel near the city center or near to the beach. Usually I stay near to the beach in a hotel called Hotel Estelar Playa Manzanillo, here you have to pay 228 euros per night, but is amazing because you have all included, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, you have access to the pool and beach, and the most important is that you have all you can drink!! So, this price is the best one and this is the best option to book in Cartagena. Additionally, the hotel provides a shuttle service to the city center at certain hours.
Activities
If you want to go to Cartagena you have to visit the City center, here you can find colorful colonial buildings, fancy shops and amazing restaurants
Clock tower: Is the main entrance to the old City. This was once the location of a drawbridge that linked the walled city to Getsemaní over the moat.
Plaza de Santo Domingo: Here you can find the traditional statue of a famous artist Botero, he is Colombian and you can take some pictures with it because is traditional of Cartagena.
You can walk, and find beautiful doors, they are a perfect spot to take some pictures, in the old city, but you can visit also Getsemaní that is a neighborhood with many art inside.
Castel of San Felipe: Here you can learn a little of the history of Cartagena, you would have an amazing view of the city. Also, you can go and live the experience of the underground passages and appreciate the architecture of it.
Walled city: This is the most tourist attraction of Cartagena, this is protected by a fortress, and has a colonial architecture and historical buildings
Cholon: Is the perfect place if you are going with friends, and you want to party all day long in the beach, you can rent a boat and it’s one hour away from Cartagena, here you will find many private yates and boats in the same mood, you will be impressed because the color of the water is incredible.

The food in Cartagena is the best in the world, if you love the sea food. You have many options but most of them are expensive. You can eat a delicious ceviche at ” La cevicheria”, here they offer a variety of options and generous portions.
In cholon, you find many options of food but the best one is fried fish, rice with coconut, banana toast and salad.
In the old city, you will find the best “Arepa con huevo”, this is a traditional dish of the cities of the coast.
Furthermore, if you want to see the beautiful sunset in Cartagena you have the option to visit “Cafe del mar “, here you can grab some drinks and appetizers and then go to party.
Finally, the most fancy restaurant in Cartagena is Marea by rausch here you can have a view of cartagena in a different dimension, and you the 80% of the dishes are based on fish and sea food. This enormous 15 deck cruise has a theatre, an ice rink, a water park, a rock climbing wall, a surf simulator and more to keep everyone on board entertained.
As it is a cruise, rooms aren’t very big, but they are comfortable and the staff leaves chocolate and decorated towels every night. Most restaurants are all inclusive, so prepare to gain a few kilos during the week.
Activities
When you’re not out exploring the islands, there are many pools and bars you can relax in. If you’re not a big fan of laying back in the sun with a cool drink, endless snacks and your toes in the pool, you can always sign up for the hundred activities available. You can climb a wall, surf, ice skate and more.
The cruise offers more than pristine oceans and white sand beaches. The islands are gorgeous and perfect to explore in a day. Old towns, view points and local restaurants.
Food Tips
Like I said, the cruise is all inclusive, so the majority of restaurants are “free”. Some are not included, like Johnny Rockets or Ben and Jerry’s. There are many delicious pizzerias and other themed restaurants, like Mexican or Japanese.
Packing Tips
Do not forget your bathing suit! You’ll also need sunscreen, sunglasses and light clothing. Also, pack a pair of comfortable shoes for your days on the islands.
London is a big city. I recommend that if you just want to stay in the city then with 3 nights and 4 days, you have enough time to see most of the city, or at least the typical tourist places, without spending a lot of money.
Currency
The currency in England is GDP (Great Britain Pounds / Sterling Pound).
Transport
Seeing that London is such a big city, you will not be able to walk all of it without any pubic transport. Of course, the best way to move around the city is using their subway system.
As you can see on the image above, London has lines all over the city, and it can sometimes be a bit chaotic. Regardless, you will at least once have to use the subway. I would recommend you buy a 10-way ticket as this will provide you with ten opportunities to actually use it and you will definitely save money.
Accomodation
The first image shows the Map of London, and I have pinpointed the center of the city. This is the area where you should stay in order to be close to everything, eventhough it is a bit more expensive, it is worth it, because that is what you will in the long-term save up money on the public transport.
The second picture is the first image but more zoomed, with a more exact location of the best area to stay in. London has a lot of hotels, hostels and airbnb which are affordable, so it is just a matter of doing some research, and deciding what you like. I personally have never stayed in any of the previously mentioned accommodations, because I have always stayed in a friend’s student residence, or with my parents in fancy hotels.
Activities
Typical Tourist Aventures: Tower of London, Big Ben and The London Eye
Get to Know the Real London: Shoreditch, Camden Town, Picadilly Circus, Covent Garden
Food Tips
In London, I think the best food recommendation is to explore any cuisine you think you have never tried. Chinatown is a great place to go, as the cuisine there is very typical and actual Chinese people will cook it in the traditional ways, and not just “Westernized” Chinese food. There are a lot of Indian restaurants which might be a bit out of budget, but if you are in need of a special place for a special occasion, this might be a good idea.
Of course, you cannot leave London without going to a pub and having some famous fish and chip, if you read our blog post on the Scotland Tour, you can find that the food tips are going to be very similar, considering the United Kingdom does not have that many delicatessen foods. Still, there are many places which you can go to.
Packing List
London is a very big city, so the most important thing to pack is very comfortable shoes. You will be walking a lot if you really want to get to know the city, so please do not take heels unless you want to use them for the night time to go to a fancy restaurant or club. A raincoat or an umbrella is always a good idea when travelling to England, as it rains very often.
